The internet is now on the move. Literally. People are checking their Facebook, their emails and surfing the web while they’re in the pub, on the train, lying on a beach, walking down the high street…you get the idea.
Those people you see with their iPhones always out I see as great potential. Listen up businesses of the world, your market potential has just grown exponentially thanks to smart-phones and tablet devices. Do not let it pass you by. Making your website sound, read and look good has just become that little more complicated, but the results could be astonishing.
Your target audience
First things first, realise that not everyone will now be viewing your website sat down at a desk or on a sofa with a 15” screen and a keyboard. Thinking about how your website is going to look on an iPhone or Blackberry is the first step to securing your place in the on-the-go revolution. And although images are more powerful than ever, they need to be backed up by well-written content.
Taking into account that when people use these devices they are likely to be moving, perhaps not fully concentrating, or just taking a quick, cursory glance, it is imperative that the copy is efficient: minimal but with impact; informative, but not overloaded with waffle and jargon. Remember, search engines will be up to date with how and when the internet is accessed, so it makes sense to do the same.
